• Revert uedit back to only marking "Yes" for toggle options in relevant

From Keyop Troy@1:103/705 to GitLab issue in main/sbbs on Fri Sep 13 17:48:30 2024

uedit was changed some time ago to use N or Y in the D and I columns of Find User and List All User Records menu items.

The previous version would show a Y or blank which is much easier to see.

    For example:

    " Y Y Y "

Is much easier to read than:

    "NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNYNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNYNYNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN"

    I hope this makes sense.

Could we revert back to the previous method?

Argh my text examples above have been truncated ... what it is supposed to show is that multiple Y's surrounded by spaces, is much easier to read than Y's mixed in with N's.

    Hope this makes sense.......?

The change you're referring to is Deuce's commit 7417d959.

uedit used to show an asterisk in the 'D' or 'I' columns (or space if those flags weren't set). A user record should never be both deleted and inactive, so having 2 columns is weird in the first place.

I agree, it looks ugly and unintuitive.

I wish people would stop changing stuff just because they like it, without considering what others think of it. Some stuff, for sure, but this was totally unnecessary. I don't use uedit much, I use the system UEDIT command mostly, but yeah, this is ugly and needs reverting. Customization like this shouldn't be done in the git source but on a local level.

Deuce's change wasn't made "because he liked it", but rather, as his commit message states, it was made to be "somewhat friendlier to screen readers", i.e. more accessible to visually impaired sysops.

Maybe an option could be added to display a "screen reader friendly" version that has the YYYYNNNNN in then?
