I'm a life member of the Monticello Railway Museum (which was known as
the Monticello & Sangamon Valley Railway Historical Society whe I joined).

We've got quite a roster of rolling stock from steam to diesel including

awesome. I've probbaly read about it all in Railfan and Railroad then.

I'm more of an eastern area railfan though, Canada and of course US
roads from New york to Florida... I drive to florida every 2 years for disney, take the kids and well, i take photos of shortlines and other stuff en-route when it 'happenes'. Last trip amongst many others I
managed to catch the Beech Mountain RR

Haven't been to chicago yet.... soon.. or area

If you make the trip through the Chicago area - here are some dinner
train deals in the Midwestern US you might consider.

I've taken the French Lick (Indiana) and the Bardstown (Kentucky) trips/dinners. Bv)=

French Lick Scenic Railway’s Dinner Train Special

This train ride will take you on a 2 hour and 30 minute trip though the rolling hills of the Hoosier National Forest, through the 2200-foot
Burton Tunnel, and across several iron bridges… all while you enjoy a scrumptious meal. https://frenchlickscenicrailway.org/dinner-trains/

With the CoVid I'm not sure if they will operate this year - they didn't
    last year (2021).

My Old Kentucky Dinner Train / Bardstown Dinner Train

    2 1/2 hour, 36-mile round-trip excursion

Gourmet, four-course dinner prepared fresh onboard by our dedicated
    culinary team

All non-alcoholic beverages, including after dinner coffee and tea

My Old Kentucky Dinner Train features two beautifully restored 1940’s vintage dining cars, which are pulled by two 1950’s F-unit locomotives.

https://www.kydinnertrain.com/ (there is a nice video on their page
    featuring the F-Units/cars, etc.)

This is next on my list -

Dinner Train - Hocking Valley Scenic Railway

The Hocking Valley Railway Dinner Train is a 3-hour, round trip excursion through historic southeast Ohio back-country from Nelsonville to East
Logan and return. Chef Alfonso Contrisciani prepares a four-course dinner in-route that is served throughout the trip. This is a unique & memorable evening! Advanced reservations are required.

BTW are you guys on fidonet from the internet or a BBS? curious

I'm using BBS's via Telnet over the Internet. I'm using Blue Wave
    Offline Mail reader. :-)

The only Internet BBS available (as such) is Doc's Place which has been
around for a gazillion years. There are some BBSes accessible through
your browser - using a telnet hookup routed through the https://www.telnetbbsguide.com/

Me, I do telnet and use the MulriMail OLR. Bv)=

Before I pulled my landline, I thought about hooking up an old machine
and trying that... I guess I could do some sort of coupler to VOIP
or something - not sure that would even work... :-)

I do use an off line mail reader and do .qwk u/l d/l for mail. :-)

give it a shot. We still use the landline to call parents (cell phones aren't as good that way) and well it's just cheap - 25 bux canadian a month

anyone shooting trains lately? If anyone gets magazines like railpace i have quite a few photos in there these days. Did a lot of trips to the US lately and many photos going to be publsihed in there soon..
