Trump has indicated there will be a 100% import tariff on
semiconductors. The only way to avoid it is to promise you will build factories in the U.S... Hence Apple's promise.
While I recognize the necessity of moving manufacturing state side it is not something that can happen overnight. Furthermore we have a education and cultural problem in the US. We have huge swaths of this country whose education has been little more than propaganda and who are still functionally children despite being thirty years old, I see them every day at work and its painful.
While the tariffs are a great first step it is not enough. This country and its people need serious help.
Sadly i think Trump is being "allowed" to deploy these tariffs because the powers that be, whoever "they" are, know the empire needs to raise taxes but that is not popular. The Tariffs serve as a stealth tax increase and Trump is being used to smuggle them in.
I fear no real work is going to be done to return any significant manufacturing to the US as that involves multi-decade planing. Instead we will have the increased cost of the tariffs and nothing else as plans fall by the wayside and China/India/whoever continue to build what we no longer are capable of building.
