You may be correct on some of that, yes. Most of the mods I had running on
my Mystic BBS before were self-coded in mpl. Some of theme the idea came
from Phenom or other type scripts/mods. I just made different versions of them in mpl for my BBS. I did this often, since many of them only were written to support 80x25, and I wanted all menus/scripts to support 132x36 also. So I had everything detecting and using the right screen size.

That's cool! What BBS did you run and what kind of Mac did you run it on?

that but also says I have no new messages every time. So I can no longer download packets at all.

You can set your download message date for your QWK it should be on the menu, unless 20 beers removed it for some reason.

Quick question: Are you downloading by FTP or from the BBS? I forgot
to ask that. The FTP engine is "new" from 2010 or so, and the BBS one
is from 1997 ( different code unfortunately).

I am downloading via the BBS, not with FTP. 20 For doesn't have a date set
in the QWK menu. I am trying to leave it 'broken' so paulie can see what is doing the next time I can catch him when we are both on the BBS.

Soo... I am not sure which BBS package I will end up going with now. :(

You've reported a bug about 3 days ago, and one which no one has
reported ever in 20+ years. If your reaction is to throw in the towel
in a couple days after you find a bug, you're probably best not using
    any BBS lol

I am not throwing in the towel, hence why I keep trying to help figure out
what is causing this issue to happen. I prefer Mystic over any other BBS software, but I also prefer to read and respond to all my FTN mail via 'offline' methods. So hoping to make both work.

Paulie runs maintenance very night at midnight, and that doesn't seem to
mess up these last read pointers. However, my best guess at the moment
is it seems almost weekly. I am not sure if there is some maintenance
that only happens on a more weekly type of basis that may be messing
    up last read somehow.

Gotcha. There should be a set message date on the message menu and it works for both QWK and your own BBS last read pointers.

    Here is my theory:

When you download a QWK packet, Mystic starts at your last read message + 1. When the last read was updated, it was setting it as last read + 1. When Mystic's message base packer was packing everything, it found that the last read message was an invalid message number and was resetting it to 0.

I do think its fixed in the "Paulie" build but we'll see. I didn't start with a reproducable issue on my end so I can't be certain.

I've also switched to using a mixture of MultiMail QWK and online Mystic to see if I can catch the "fixed" version doing the same stuff. I'll be packing the message bases daily as well.

We'll get it sorted out and a new stable release out once its done and Paulie confirms any issues he has regarding file bases is okay!

I am wondering if he does a weekly message base pack, which is along the lines of what I recommend at least. I don't recommend people run it nightly because what it does is completely recreates the message bases from scratch based on the existing data. "Pack" isn't really a good word for it but its intensive.

Lets hope its a weekly thing for him and we'll see it fixed in the new one!

Your description of what you think is happening, does sound very plausible

QWK mail handling to be so poor. Three Mystic BBS's I've tried to rely solely on QWK packets for all message handling have failed. After about
a week or so on each, Mystic loses my last read pointers and I then have thousands of new messsages again. This time, on 20 For Beers, it did that but also says I have no new messages every time. So I can no longer
    download packets at all.

Any thoughts of using Hermes II? I know it's old but I've got the unreleased 3.5.11 version up and running via TCP and it seems to be pretty stable in OS9. Same issue with the door games though - I can only get two to work (Leech and Blackjack Pro).
Not sure, but maybe there would be a way to connect to the game servers using a Python external or if you're handy with THINK Pascal...

We don't need more cowbell, BUT, when necessary, it simply must be sterophonic. There is a time and a place. :-)

I am not sure if he implemented the new build or not yet. It did happen again after this Sunday night. So it is happening on whatever BBS maintenance he is running weekly. Maybe he will chime in to this message when he sees it and confirm what build he is using and what maintenance he is running weekly.
