• Change of prt number for mbse

From Vincent Coen@2:250/1 to All on Fri Feb 4 23:11:21 2022
    Hello All!

I want to run a second version of mbse on a Raspberry Pi with a USB connected 1Tb Sata HDD as a back up system but more likely to just run the elist software. This way I can having set it up pass on the elist batton to some one
else as a total system as all it needs is LAN cable to router or hub, HDMI cable for a monitor and if needed a two wire power cable (using a 8 socket)
for power. Now it can work any where in the world as the power adaptor is one for a Laptop with a voltage range of 100 - 240.
The benefit of this is that it is very low power requirement although it should
be connected to a UPS if at all possible (and yes my kit does even if only
    good for around a hour).

Now as the primary BBS uses the standard port 24554 I would like it to use 24555.

This way I can tell the Router to port forward 24554 to pass all traffic to the
primary and if a poll comes in using 24555 to pass traffic to the Pi.

I cannot see how you set up the port in mbse and I think I have looked every where (unless some one knows otherwise by doing a search of the manual for '24554') as it looks like 24554 is the standard and can't be changed - or can it ?

When I have wanted to do that I changed the port in /etc/services.

I'm not sure if there is a way to have one instance of MBSE use port 24554 and another 24555 on the same machine, but if they are on different machines this works.

No, I want two boxes - ok a box and a half running their own copy of mbse where
the Pi has a special network address and has as its uplink the primary system to get and pass files, netmail and echo traffic to it.

mbse will not be doing a lot and and web and hopefully the ftp interfaces will not be used.

If any files arrive on the primary I wil have to have some kind of script to transfer them to the Pi. Just another function to work out but I really hope that is not needed!

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I do not think the router can handle transfer across ports but I could be wrong
    :)

If it can, it is a possible solution, thanks for the idea.

In that case then yes, you can change the port in /etc/services to 24555 or whatever port you want to use for binkp.

You'll need to restart inet.d or xinetd if it is already running.
