Janis - but getting these uplinks to use another is taking a wee bit
    of time.

Yes, that is where I was getting them but Janis's system doesn't
    answer anymore.

I don't mind reaching out to get those files if I knew where to go.

She has shutdown most of her system and the rest no doubt soon.

If you would like you can get files and echos from me just send me your address
that you will use along with a password case sensitive for:
    session
    echo processing
    file processing

Send DIRECT, CRASH to me at 2:250/1

You can then just link in to what one's you need and yes I carry the lot other than for echos that are German, Russian or usegroups other than the one's I get
    direct from the servers.

I am looking for a link for the EARTH FDN file areas.
Yes, those are the ones. I wonder where he is hatching those files,
where they can be picked up?

Just check with all your links.
If none of them carries it, go directly to the source (Dan?) and establish a link with him.

I do not carry that particular file echo.

Yes, I have reached out to Dan but I haven't heard back yet. I read elsewhere that Dan was having issues IRL that requires his attention right now so I suspect that can be done in time.

I do not carry that particular file echo.

There are linked nodes here so that is why I hope to get connected, one way or another.

i don't know if he was only linked to janis or not...

Aside from a few links I think Janis's system did the heavy lifting. She got the files moving to hubs and connected nodes. If we can get the hubs linked so nodes have another place to connect I think we'll be OK.

off the top of my head, i don't even know what software he is using...

I think his node is using the husky software, hpt and htick.

He is another link - if it happens again I will remove the second one as it is a backup source as far as I am concerned.

I will see how it goes - takes time to all settle down.

Just delete the dup but your system should be rejected a duplicate file (by same name).

Of course it does help if that ARE the same name.

If we see a multitude of betas coming through I will have to contact the source
and ask him to restrict it as he should be doing better testing.

Daily updates we do not need.

if you noticed, there were two different origins in those two TIC files ;) the second one did not traverse through your system... it may have been a one time thing, though...

    yep...

Just delete the dup but your system should be rejected a duplicate

nope... they either sit in my inbound or they get tossed into the file area depending on if the TIC carries a REPLACES line or if i have the area set to always replace...

it should also be noted that the software i'm using now is no where near allfix in capabilities... there is no concept of feed links or up/down links and no way to restrict who can send or receive... if a file arrives here from a linked system, any linked system, it is sent out to all other linked systems not already listed in the seenby lines once the file is processed...

Of course it does help if that ARE the same name.

That is strange. It appears someone else is hatching files in the WINPOINT area with a different filename.

the only other question is why are we carrying beta programs?

The Winpoint program has been called a public beta ever since I came across it somewhere around 2005 but the software is fairly mature at this point.

The Public Beta seems to be missing from the latest versions description so I think that has been dropped now.

we went through all this a couple of years ago when a particular Z2 system was hatching numerous beta updates of the same files almost every day and chewing up everyone's drive space...

That doesn't happen in the WINPOINT area. I think I have hatched three files in that area. The last two were a day apart because there were important changes.

I don't do any testing at all. I don't have the windows here to test winpoint. I do keep up with what the author is doing and what winpoint users have to say but no testing.

I did error on the WP_389.zip, I meant to replace wp_387.zip but I replaced wp_389.zip. Bummer, although I have a plan that could work to get rid of the 387 version.

Original posted ahd pointed out that thee was two versions of the same file one
as WP389.ZIP and the other WP_389.ZIP.

I was wondering what is the 'official' version ?

If updates are not frequent it is not a problem it is just in the past some one
used to do a beta update almost every day for close to a month - it was tiresome
and most user just did not update weekly let alone every few days.
We have other things to do unless a major flaw was found in which case I still programmer should do better testing before doing a release .

Just my view point but from being hired as a contract/freelance doing testing at
senior and lower levels both auto and manual testing and no I am not looking for a new role.

There are no daily updates. WP_389.zip was hatched a day after
    WP_387.zip because of important changes.

WinPoint development is ongoing and there will likely be further
updates when the author releases them. The same is true for the
    OPENXP area and files.

Original posted ahd pointed out that thee was two versions of the same file one as WP389.ZIP and the other WP_389.ZIP.

I was wondering what is the 'official' version ?

i would say the ""official"" one would be the one hatched by the FDN owner/maintainer... in this specific case, that would be WP_387.ZIP as hatched from Alan's system...

If updates are not frequent it is not a problem it is just in the past some one used to do a beta update almost every day for close to a
    month

yeah, those were from Gert until i said something about them to janis... it looked like he was taking repository snapshots daily and hatching those... i remember some being quite large... like over 2Gig in size... that isn't as much of a problem as it used to be, though...

locating and digging into the Z2PNT list, i find that person to be Tim Schattkowsky... i'm not sure of his relationship with WinPoint or the WINPOINT FDN but i have noted his name in a few echos in recent
    times...

Tim is the author of WINPOINT and still active to distribute maintenance updates

as I've just established a link with Janis for the filecho WINPOINT, Janis goes down.
So therefor I've searched for another uplink for the Filegate distribution channel.

Starting with the replacement link to you at 1:3634/12 there was no WINPOINT fileecho available.
In the description of filegate.* Vince shows as the direct replacement for Janis that he still offered at several channels. As I still had a sleeping link with Vince, I've requested to activate the feed for WINPOINT with also the ability to send updates direct from the author of WINPOINT

ahhhh... that's why his name is familiar to me...

part of the problem, in this instance, is that Alan is the FDN maintainer for WINPOINT... Tim should be sending the WINPOINT files to Alan for hatching into the distribution channel(s)... when Alan hatches it, then it will traverse to all of the systems connected to him and from them on out further into the wild...
