• The BBBS FDN

From Janis Kracht@1:261/38 to Alan Ianson on Mon Oct 18 15:30:40 2021
    Hi Alan,

I was just taking a walk through the filegate.zxx, comparing my areas with those listed and I don't see the BBBS FDN listed in there. Did that FDN drop away?

There were a few problems here... First, Jame Clay left fidonet - he and Kim Heino were the coordinators of the BBBS FDN... Secondly, Kim really did not use Fidonet to release new versions of BBBS, but rather had people download the correct version they needed from his site at bbbs.net, where it remains available for download :)

I can put it back in the list of file echos, I still have the content here for the FDN:

% FDN: BBBS File Distribution Network (BBBS FDN)

Area BBBS-ULD 0 ! BBBS: BBBS and BTerm for Ultrix
Area BBBS-UW 0 ! BBBS: BBBS and BTerm for UnixWare

Any preferences? Would you like to contact Kim and see if he'd like to have his product on the filegate list of areas?

    Take care,
    Janis

That's true of the recent updates to BBBS. They require an installed base.

There hasn't been a BBBS release since 2007.. so I wouldn't call the BBBS areas high traffic.. :)

Kim has released new versions of bterm just after the last BBBS updates.

There are updated versions for linux 32/64/Rpi, Windows and OS/2.

It looks like today the only OS's supported are BBBS-L, BBBS-2 and BBBS-NT.

I suppose I could contact Kim but I don't know him well. Do you think that would be a good thing?

I have contacted Kim a couple of times and I agree, he was always friendly and helpful.

I am already the FDN coordinator of the NASA area and I have an idea for an FDN I have been meaning to bring up with Janis.

How is your free time these days? :) I think you would also make a good coordinator for the BBBS areas if that is something you would like to do. That's something you would need to take up with Kim and Janis.

Yeah, not something I think I would like to take on at the moment as I have a full plate in front of me atm.

Trying to do my HAREC Amateur exam atm
