No worries. It was the latter you were referring to, then. I don't think I've seen anything like that offhand. Heck, I don't even know if I've seen anything for Linux at all in regards to something like that.

Write one up. I'll beta test it for you. :)

Most of unix/linux Nodes do not support filerequests by default. There are request-bots for *nix available, I remember one of Alex Woik and mfreq from Markus Reschke. Sources are on github. I ported mfreq (from Markus Reschke) and rproc from Alex Woik from *nix to os2.

My ususal procedure is a full text search within an announcement echo
or do a "files" request to fetch a full file list of the specific
node. Then i search that file list locally with my prefered tools. In
both cases it leads to the filename to be requested.

No, it's not part of the mailer. You need additional Software to serve file-requests during mailersession.

A second way is sending a netmail filerequest (by crash or routed) to the nodesystem, and the Nodesystem will put the requested file on hold. For this, you also need additional software for serving (routed) netmail file-requests.

I remember sfs/2, lets see... I'm afraid it's DOS and OS/2 only. And Freeware but not open source i think. Search for sfs31.zip if you didn't found anything else.
