The tech is changing -- my kids are great at social networks and
mobile
interfaces, but I'd be shocked if they could wrap their heads around
TCP/IP or some of the fundamentals of the tech they use.
We need a new generation of packet movers... :)

Probably true in many/most cases. There is a percentage of kids who
become experts at the tech but there are probably a lot more who just
know how to work what they use and don't learn much extra.
