• The Vorlons and the Earth-Minbari War

From Rixter@1:3634/60 to All on Thu Aug 7 07:59:06 2025

If humans were as important to the Vorlon’s plans as the Minbari were, why didn’t they step in and stop the Earth-Minbari war before it escalated? A few Vorlon ships around Jericho 6 might have dissuaded the Minbari from retaliating, given cooler heads time to prevail and learn the truth?

Because the Vorlons knew that the war had to happen to bring the Earth Alliance to build the Babylon stations, so that Babylon 4 would travel into the past with Jeffery Sinclair, to win the last Shadow War.

    Because it had already happened.

And with the Vorlons being mostly absent during the war. The Minibari took that as the Vorlons not having a problem with the war. They only show up to give Delen clues like "The Truth points to itself." since they knew Sinclair in the past and he told them eveything. The Vorlons considered it a closed circle. Meaning it has to happen that way.

If humans were as important to the Vorlons' plans as the Minbari were, why didn't they step in and stop the Earth-Minbari war before it escalated?

As a general rule, Vorlons don't get involved with the interactions between planets. Unlike the Shadows, Vorlons are more sutle in their actions.

They are one of the older races and quite mysterious aren't they?
I think we would recognize them as Angels. I liked that episode when Kosh took off his suit, it finally made sense.

This made me look it up and apparently Babyloj 5 was built in like 2, maybe 3 years max!?!? Babylon project starts 2248, 4 comes online 2254, 2256 for 5.

    That seems crazy fast

I had imagined the Babylon projects as a series of stations built on the frontier of which only #5 survived through construction, especially since they’re at different locations (at least 4 and 5 are, but I guess that could be because 4 proved the location unsafe?

This was one of the points of discussion in the graphic novel "Valen's name". Valen's last records in babylon 4 have him telling that he brainstormed this with Kosh and Ulkesh about whether it could be possible to avoid Earth-Minbari war, but they all came to same conclusion: if the war isn't allowed to progress as it did, consequences for the whole timeline could be dangerously unpredictable.

If Minbari do not survive the penultimate shadow war, then that basically gives the shadows free hands to move as they see fit. Delenn's estimation were that they'd emerge three times as big as fleet as they had now.

And that's just for starters. Now that nobody is there among the younger races to bang the alarm bells, the shadow infiltration with all the younger races can proceed without a hitch. There's a good chance that entire galaxy would turn into a war-torn hellscape, where extinction events are daily occurrence.

Where did you find this info. In the show, there's no mention regarding length of construction.
