gopher should be also doable and probably desirable. Offhand methinks that would be the way to go.

I do not currently have gopher available here. synchronet supports it, and
I have it enabled, but it appears that maybe my ISP is blocking port 70 as
I am not able to connect from remote.

it appears that maybe my ISP is blocking port 70 as I am not able to
    connect from remote.

I can confirm that lynx connects to http://capitolcityonline.net but not gopher://capitolcityonline.net. I know "lynx gopher://" works as I have successfully connected to hosts on port 70.

Tracking this down and seeing if it is maybe something I can fix is on the to-do list. I wasn't aware it wasn't working until it came up here.

I wasn't aware it wasn't working until it came up here.

That can and does happen every now and then. Also "lynx http://" had issues and I had to use "lynx telnet://" to create an account and then log into it. I was looking to create a msg but didn't see an echoarea corresponding to ASIAN_LINK.

I figured out why it wasn't working... I had closed the port on my router.

That said, I also think I figured out why I did so. I was able to lynx to
it but, as there is apparently no way to log on via the synchronet gopher pages, so you are presented with a rather small selection of message
groups and file areas, none of which are accessible without a logon.

So all you get is the main page and links that don't function.

    I closed port 70 back up. ;)

I got that with an http connection instead. I didn't get anything with a gopher attempt, just dead air.

    I closed port 70 back up. ;)

Although I cannot guarantee any better results, if I were going to use lynx
to connect to the board via http, I would point it to classic.capitolcityonline.net, which will serve up the more simple (older) synchronet interface.

Exactly the same result there. Anyhow I wouldn't lose any sleep over it seeing I am more than happy with the way I have been MSGing for the last 25-ish years now. The 16 penguins below will back me up on this, I am sure. :-)

    Mike and Maurice,
I have read this thread and see I don't need to search for Lynx.

So Iwill continue signing in as I have been doing on this phone.

    Still learning about it.
Recently I been seeing messages about Google asks to save a password just after I finish entering it.
It frustrates Me and I haven'tlooked in Settings yet to turn it off
So far it hasn't goe me cussing, I just Praise The Lord Anyhow.

There is alway something or someone to keep Me humble, right now it's the phone.

    Hey Ed!

I have read this thread and see I don't need to search for Lynx.

As far as I can tell, I'd have to agree. Mind you I ran across more than a few links that resemble my personal feelings on the subject of ARM64 devices and the lack of usable applications.

There is alway something or someone to keep Me humble, right now
    it's the phone.

Speaking for myself, those particular devices are in dire need of a top notch hacker who cares about such things. I am definetly not that person but would be if there was no other choice.
